The music on Infrared Roses emerged from the part of Dead shows labeled “Drums/Space,” the point about halfway through the second set when they left the songs behind. JESSE: The Grateful Dead, of course, kept writing songs after Built To Last, but they also kept developing in other ways, and Infrared Roses was a progress report from their improvisational group mind - created at the cutting edge of technology, just the way Live/Dead was more than 20 years earlier.
